Calling on passionate, energetic students who want to make a difference and join our team. Members of our dedicated OrchKids team see the way music changes lives on a daily basis. We’re growing and looking for some great interns who want to share the power of music with our exceptional Baltimore City students.

Organizational Summary:
OrchKids is a year-round, during and after school, music program designed to create social change and nurture promising futures for youth in Baltimore City’s neediest neighborhoods. Under Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Music Director Marin Alsop’s artistic leadership and direction, OrchKids is the cornerstone of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s programs to make a difference within the broad and diverse Baltimore community. In collaboration with several community partners, including Baltimore City Public Schools, OrchKids provides music education, instruments, academic instruction, and performance and mentorship opportunities, as well as meals and services at no cost. Currently OrchKids works with six public schools in Baltimore City, serving more than 1,200 children from Pre-K through 10th grade.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist primarily the Executive Director and Director of Operations with organizational and program administration
  • Be friendly and personable while managing heavy communications and calendar scheduling (requiring interaction with both internal and external executives and assistants, as well as consultants, clients, co-workers and the general public) to coordinate various complex meetings
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on issues in a timely manner
  • Lead short-term projects and initiatives as requested by the Executive Director
  • Respect the need for confidentiality and sensitivity of information
  • Have a proven ability to exercise good judgment in recognising the scope of authority
  • Assist the Executive Director with all other related assigned tasks
  • Assist other team members as delegated by the Executive Director
  • Work with the Executive Director to manage her calendar and schedule (board meetings, donor meetings, conferences, regional office visits)
  • Chase responses to requests and emails to/from the Executive Director
  • Ensure that key dates and events are highlighted to the Executive Director ahead of time
  • Ensure that birthdays and other significant events are kept in front of the Executive Director
  • Greet visitors graciously and in a professional manner, create a good personal image through a neat, clean, businesslike professional appearance and a positive, cheerful attitude
  • Answer phones in a pleasant, helpful and professional manner, direct all incoming calls to appropriate party promptly and efficiently, accurately recording messages and reliably passing messages to recipient in a timely manner
  • Type up meeting notes as requested

Requirements and Qualification:
