Education Programs

Testimonials by Teachers

"Another fabulous program!  I love this "theme and variations' programs because the children get a feel for ensemble work-tempos, entrances, cut-offs, etc.  The theme was beautiful and most children were successful playing it.  I will extend this lesson by having children sing variations on a song that they know.  I think I will also use the "theme" we played and write our own variations on that.  This is something I feel my students will always remember!  Thank you to Michael, Sandy and Katherine who are fabulous and know just how to work with and help children.  My sincere thanks to the BSO for providing this opportunity for my students.  Thanks so much!"

"It was such a fantastic combination of interactive and performance.  The students were thoroughly engaged for the entire 45 minutes and this is a feat not so easily accomplished.  The musicians were very comfortable and completely non-plussed by what can be a difficult audience at times.  Thank you so much."

"I want to thank you so much for the wonderful BSO program you sent to Wyngate. Michael and Sandy were fantastic! They were, of course, amazing musicians, but their rapport with and presentation to our first graders were truly superlative. The classroom teachers and I were delighted with every aspect of the program.

I hope we will be included on next year's schedule. We are very grateful to have had the privilege of experiencing the BSO on the Go!"

"It was truly remarkable watching Caitlin's reaction to the violin performance brought to Fallsmead by the BSO. I have known Caitlin since she was a kindergartner - frequently shuffling through the hallway as if she barely had enough energy to stay awake. Even as she got older, it was always a challenge for her to sit up straight, stay awake, and participate in school activities. I have had the pleasure of working with Caitlin very closely this year, as she has been mainstreamed into my third grade classroom. She has made remarkable progress since the beginning of the year - learning classroom routines, completing work, and interacting with her peers. However, I have never seen such a dramatic, positive, change in Caitlin since our BSO performance. She moved to the music more in that half an hour than I had ever seen her move before. This musical "spark" clearly ignited something within Caitlin, as she seems to have come alive. She now interacts more with her peers, has a spring in her step as she travels the school, and takes the initiative to begin her work and continue to work independently.

Thank you BSO for having such a powerful impact on all the students you touch - especially Caitlin. Keep up the fantastic work!"

"What a thrill!  This was such a unique opportunity.  There wasn't one student who wasn't curious and inspired.  Ms. Kämper played music of great variety and did so beautifully.  She spoke about tone, texture, technique, composers, periods of music…She was warm and friendly.  We'd love to have you back!"

"The program was wonderful.  We are getting ready to complete our sound unit and this was a great preview of what they will learn.  Wonderful:.  Please come again."

"Once again this was a lovely program that captivated the students. They enjoyed their interchange with a professional violinist.  They heard beautiful music and used their imaginations to engage in the activities presented skillfully by Ms. Troyer.  I hope we will see BSO on the Go again!"

"The musicians conducted a very informative and engaging session!  Thank you for taking the time to come out to our school.  It was wonderful for the children to experience the instruments in a more intimate setting than at a concert."

"Wonderful program-each student had the opportunity to participate actively.  What a joy to see such delight on their faces when they coaxed their first sounds from the violin!  Presentation was age appropriate….Thank you for an informative, engaging program.  Can't wait for next year!"

"I think that this experience was invaluable for the kids.  It was hard work for them and some students were leaders during the actual composing (in class) activity.  For others, it was a little over their heads.  That was interesting for me and the activity served as a good assessment opportunity.  I would indeed love to continue the composition lesson in coming years."
