Off The Cuff: Copland Symphony No. 3
Marin Alsop, conductor
Marin Alsop explores the dean of American composers, Aaron Copland. There is nothing more quintessentially American-sounding than the Fanfare for the Common Man, which Copland originally wrote in 1942 and then featured prominently in the finale of his Third Symphony (1946). This grand victory symphony, summing up the American experience of World War II, was written for the largest orchestra Copland ever used.
