2017 Academy Chamber Program

2017 BSO ACADEMY WEEK June 24 – July 1, 2017

CHAMBER PROGRAM
The Academy Chamber Program appeals to a wide range of adult musicians – from those who are interested in trying chamber music maybe for the first time to advanced players seeking a week-long intensive experience focusing exclusively on chamber ensemble playing through the Full Chamber Program. For all participants, the Academy Chamber Program provides adult musicians with opportunities to evolve into more advanced chamber musicians.

The Chamber Program offers two unique chamber experiences with BSO musicians, which can be tailored to suit the interests of the participant and desired intensity level:

ACADEMY CHAMBER MUSIC
Participants enrolled in Academy Chamber Music rehearse and perform in one ensemble, quartet-sized or larger, with a BSO musician serving as the group’s coach, but also as a playing member of the ensemble.

For example, an Academy string quartet could include two adult participants on violin, one on viola, and a BSO musician playing the cello part! This experience includes four 1.5 hour rehearsals and a public performance.

 ACADEMY CHAMBER ORCHESTRA (ACO)*
Led by BSO Concertmaster and accomplished conductor Jonathan Carney, the Academy Chamber Orchestra offers participants the opportunity to diversify their orchestral experiences and learning by playing repertoire for a smaller orchestra.

Unlike the full orchestra in the Orchestral Program, the ACO only has BSO musicians playing principal positions in the violin (Violin I and Violin II), viola, and cello sections. This experience includes one sectional, four 1.5 hour rehearsals, and a public performance.

*The Academy Chamber Orchestra is most enjoyable for participants who are able to carry their own parts in the ensemble, i.e. being comfortable enough with the level of the repertoire to be the only musician on your part. If you are new to the Academy Programs, we recommend sending a playing sample by 1) uploading a sound or video file with your application 2) sending via email to academy@bsomusic.org OR 3) mailing a CD or DVD to:

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Attn: BSO Academy 1212 Cathedral St. Baltimore, MD 21201

2017 ACADEMY CHAMBER ORCHESTRA REPERTOIRE*
Jonathan Carney, conductor

SCHUBERT, Symphony No. 3 in D, D.200
BEETHOVEN, Symphony No. 7, Op. 92

*Repertoire is subject to change.
