2018 Symphony Designers' Show House

Please note: The opening of the 41st Annual Symphony Designers' Show House has been postponed due to inclement weather. The house will now be opening on Sunday, May 27 and remain open through Sunday, June 17.

Additionally, the Opening Day Breakfast has been cancelled. Tickets will be automatically refunded. The Twilight Tuesday event on May 22 has been rescheduled for June. Ticket holders from the May 22 event may attend any of the Twilight Tuesday events taking place on May 29, June 5 and June 12. If you cannot attend on any of those dates, please contact the BSO Ticket Office at 410.783.8000.

"Oakland," the former home of Edgar Allan Poe III, is located in the Greenspring Valley of Baltimore County, and will be the site of the 41st Symphony Designers' Show House.

The majestic 1927 estate of the great, great, great grandnephew of the Baltimore poet offers old world character with Flemish bond red brick, and stately detailing on arches, moldings and leaded glass transoms. The four levels include hardwood floors and 10' ceilings with several French doors. A handmade tile floor has scattered tiles of Poe's ravens. There are over 20 designed rooms and spaces highlighting the talents of many local designers. Guests may also visit a boutique, cafe, and Encore! shop.

New this year will be the opportunity for guests to “Sip’nShop” in the Boutique on Thursdays evenings, participate in a private tour with Designer presentations on Twilight Tuesdays, enjoy performances by BSO musicians on Sunday, June 3 and BSYO student performers on Sunday, June 10.

"Oakland" will be open to the public from May 27 - June 17, 2018. Please note tickets are not date specific. You may use your ticket any time during normal operating hours. Hours will be 10 am to 4 pm on Tuesday through Sunday, and 10 am - 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Parking will be on site. 

Tickets are $25 off site or $30 at the door and may be purchased through the BSO ticket office at 410-783-8000, online at, by calling the BSA office at 410-783-8023 or at the local ticket outlets listed below. 

All proceeds from this event help support the Educational Programs of the BSO, which includes Mid-Week Youth Concerts, Open Rehearsals and ORCHKids.

Twilight Tuesdays 

May 29, June 5, June 12
Guests will be greeted by a Show House Chairperson giving a brief history of the House followed by a private, guided tour. Pull up a chair for the "Featured Designer Presentation" and enjoy delicious nibbles and dessert. This will be a Show House experience like none other. Seating is limited.

The Baltimore Symphony Associates (BSA) continues its long tradition of volunteers in service to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra reaching back to 1942 when it began as the Women's Committee. More than 200 current members use their time, energy and financial support to benefit the BSO’s education programs. Volunteers are an important part of the success of many organizations and this one is no exception.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then volunteering at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is right for you! Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The valuable time, skills and creativity of dedicated BSA volunteers help keep the Baltimore Symphony's wonderful tradition of artistic excellence alive.

A wide variety of volunteer needs present opportunities for service. Some require only a few hours of your time, while others involve a more serious time commitment. There’s bound to be one that fits your interests, skills and amount of available time.

Below is just a sample of some of the volunteer activities.

One of the most visible ways we serve the BSO is by managing and staffing the Symphony Store located in the Meyerhoff lobby. When concertgoers stop in and purchase something for themselves or a gift for another music lover, they benefit the BSO. The store is open one hour before subscription concerts and during intermissions.  BSA members enjoy staffing the store as well as attending the concert.

Another project to raise funds for the BSO’s educational programs is the Photo Project. When the BSO presents special holiday concerts, the BSA provides an opportunity for patrons to purchase their photos taken in the decorated Meyerhoff lobby. Other holiday season activities vary from year to year.

The BSA invites families attending the Saturday Family Concert Series to add a delightful luncheon to their ticket order. It also sponsors several other activities such as luncheons with interesting programs or speakers and social events with a musical theme to raise funds for the BSO.

Throughout the performing season, the BSA provides ushers for mid-week education concerts and other special events at the Meyerhoff. The mid-week concerts are presented to tens of thousands of school children from throughout the metropolitan area.  BSA volunteers also usher for the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras concerts and assist with the Music Box Series and the OrchKids program — an after-school program that combines music learning and mentorship for over 800 Baltimore school children.  BSA members may also be asked to assist BSO staff members with projects and may serve as guides for tours of the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. 

BSA Member BenefitsAll Associates are invited to general membership meetings – usually with a guest speaker or performance – as well as an annual meeting in June. Membership dues, starting at just $35 a year, help defray the cost of running the non-profit organization.
