Symphony No. 3, “Kaddish”
Ansel Adams: America
Ansel Adams: America" is a symphonic tribute saluting one of America's most cherished artists, composed by Chris and Dave Brubeck. The 22-minute,
one-movement piece, fully integrates sweeping melodies with 102 striking images of or by Ansel. Few people realize that Ansel
Adams trained to be a classical musician, a fact which greatly influenced the work.
Bernstein's
Kaddish
"O, my Father," begins Leonard Bernstein's Third Symphony, "I want to say
Kaddish." Bernstein transforms the Kaddish into a prayer of peace for himself, for the listener, and for all humanity.
Symphonic Explorations at Strathmore
For those interested in learning more about orchestral music and composers, the Levine School of Music offers enrichment classes
to complement BSO concerts held at The Music Center at Strathmore.
These courses, taught by Melinda Baird, Chair of Piano at the Levine School of Music, and Jason McCool, Levine faculty lecturer, are in-depth explorations of upcoming BSO performances in the 2012-2013 season. The classes explore the music on the evening’s program with discussions that delve into the historical context of the repertoire and the composers. The 45-minute classes are FREE to ticket holders.
Classes meet before the selected performances at 7:00 pm in Room 309 at Strathmore and are followed by a performance by the
BSO at 8:00 pm. For more information, please call 202.686.8000 x1547 or visit
