Rossini -
The Thieving Magpie Overture
Slatkin -
The Raven
Sibelius -
Symphony No. 2
Guest conductor Leonard Slatkin introduces his own musical setting of Edgar Allen Poe classics with a stellar cast of actors
joining the full orchestra-a double treat for those who love Poe's works and appreciate his connection to Baltimore. Another
devilish bird runs amok in Rossini's ebullient Overture to
The Thieving Magpie. The Sibelius' Second is a vivid musical portrait of Finland-including birds, trees and fjords-invoking a sense of national
pride in his homeland.
Do you want to enrich your concert experience? Come early to hear WETA 90.9 FM's David Ginder's insightful and witty commentary
on the evening's concert program. The 40-minute pre-concert lectures feature music clips and surpise appearances by BSO musicians
and guest artists. Music Notes LIVE! begins at 7 pm in the Music Center at Strathmore. The program is free to all ticket
holders. No reservations are required but capacity is limited, so patrons will be admitted on a first-come, first-served
basis.
