After his appearance sparked rave reviews last season, Yan Pascal Tortelier returns to the Meyerhoff to conduct one of the most influential, enduring and celebrated of all classical masterworks, Berlioz’s
Symphonie fantastique. Altogether new in its time,
Symphonie fantastique describes the tortured dreams of a sensitive artist in lovesick despair, who takes an overdose of opium and becomes haunted by visions of an unattainable woman. Also on the program is Richard Yardumian’s Armenian Suite, echoing influences of Armenian folk songs, and young piano sensation Yuja Wang performing Prokofiev’s first piano concerto.
The concert will end at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4:45 p.m. on Sunday
