Dvorák -
Scherzo capriccioso
Chopin -
Piano Concerto No. 1 Dvorák -
Symphony No. 7
Stirred by Brahms' Third Symphony, Dvorák vowed to make his Seventh a piece "capable of moving the world." The resulting Symphony in D Minor explores moods of tragedy and pastoral reflection. Considered by some to be Dvorák's greatest symphony, it is paired with the composer's lilting, cheerful
Scherzo capriccioso. Both works provide a striking contrast with the poetic restraint of Chopin's First Piano Concerto.
