Serenade for Strings
Violin Concerto No. 2
Octet (arr. Lee)
Whenever concertmaster Jonathan Carney devises a program, you can be sure it is something special! All youthful charm, Elgar’s Serenade has a gorgeous slow movement that evokes the famous “Nimrod” movement from the
Enigma Variations. The soloist in Bach’s sunny concerto, Carney himself leads a fascinating full orchestral arrangement by Yoon Jae Lee of Mendelssohn’s Octet, considered the composer’s first mature masterpiece, written when he was only 16.
