Dances of Galánta
Janácek -
Taras Bulba
It’s a rare treat to hear the wild, darkly exuberant music of Eastern Europe in the hands of the Czech maestro and BBC Symphony Chief Conductor Jiří Bělohlávek. He takes us from the ebullient
Carnival Overture of Dvořák, and the gypsy rhythms of the Hungarian town of
Galánta, to his compatriot Janáček’s orchestral masterpiece,
Taras Bulba, which tells the epic tale of a Slavic hero’s indomitable will and courage. The young Israeli-American Shai Wosner provides repose in Beethoven’s serene Piano Concerto No. 4.
