BSO Academy Programs:
A Continuum of Activities for Adult Musicians
Now in its fourth year, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Academy programs provide an exciting range of activities for amateur musicians looking to hone their skills and play celebrated repertoire side-by-side with the pros. From the one-night Rusty Musicians event to the week-long Academy, the BSO Academy programs engage community members of all levels and playing abilities. These programs include:
A one-night event, the BSO Rusty Musicians brings together amateur musicians with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to rehearse and play through major symphonic works. During this year’s Rusty event on November 13, 2012, we were delighted to welcome Rusty Singers to the stage in addition to Rusty Instrumentalists.
Full one-day events, the Instrument Clinics provide amateur musicians with the opportunity to refine their playing skills through technique-building classes focused on sound production, musicianship, practice techniques and ensemble skills.
Two-day events in which amateur musicians play in side-by-side chamber groups with BSO musicians, the chamber music weekends offer participants a way to rehearse and perform celebrated chamber works with the pros. The 2013 Chamber Music Weekend will be in July/August 2013.
The week-long BSO Academy, scheduled June 15-22, 2013, brings together passionate, adult instrumental musicians from all over the United States for a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Led by the exceptional Maestra Marin Alsop, participants play side-by-side with the BSO in rehearsals and performances and experience master classes, lectures, chamber music coachings, and sectionals led by orchestra members and experts in the field. The Academy provides an immersive experience for participants who desire an intensive learning experience.
