Individual Instrument Sectionals
BSO Musicians
Participants have the opportunity to rehearse orchestral music within their sections before the week's orchestral rehearsals.
Individual Instrument Masterclasses
BSO Musicians
Participants have the opportunity to play individually for BSO members to get personalized feedback on both solo and orchestral repertoire.
Solo with Piano Class
Mary Woehr, Piano
Rehearse and perform solo repertoire with a skilled and accomplished pianist. Participants will have one rehearsal with Mary and are expected to perform in a casual recital.
Percussion Ensemble
Chris Williams, John Locke, Brian Prechtl, Percussion
Participants will read and rehearse standard percussion ensemble repertoire while building valuable technique and ensemble skills. All percussion participants are expected to play in 3 rehearsals during the week, culminating in a casual performance at the end of the week.
Brass Ensemble
Jim Olin, Trombone
Read and rehearse standard repertoire for large brass ensemble.
Tuning and Blending - Woodwinds
Marcia Kamper , Flute
Learn techniques on how to blend, listen and tune in a woodwind section. Participants will play together in small groups to work on developing these skills .
*Open for all woodwind players, not limited to flute.
*Woodwind players should bring their instruments and orchestra music to class.
Beyond the Notes Woodwinds
Emily Skala, Flute
Learn how to use musical techniques like phrasing, dynamics, articulation to bring notes to life. Participants will play solo and orchestra rep and in small groups to work on these skills.
*All academy woodwind players may attend not limited to flutes. Bring orchestra music and instruments to class.
Brass Physics
Andy Balio, Trumpet
Learn techniques to get maximum resonance with minimum effort out of a brass instrument. Volunteers will work with Andy for demonstration and discussion.
*Open for all brass players, not limited to trumpet.
Beyond the Notes Brass

String Clinic

Participants will read and rehearse classic string orchestra repertoire while building valuable ensemble and orchestra skills in a fun, no pressure environment. All participants are expected to play in class.
Violin/Viola Masterclass

Participants will perform and work one on one with Jon in front a group of peers. Select students will perform in class.
Orchestral Techniques - Violin

Learn techniques and skills specific to playing in the violin section of the orchestra from BSO Concertmaster, Jonathan Carney. *Participants will work on their orchestra rep. Please bring instruments and music to class. For violinists only.
Cello/Bass Masterclass

Participants will perform and work one on one with Dariusz in front a group of peers. Select students will be asked to perform in this class.
Cello and Bass Choir

Read and rehearse repertoire for cello choir while building ensemble and technique skills.
Baroque String Orchestra
Madeline Adkins, Violin
Madeline demonstrates baroque performance techniques on a period instrument. Participants will have the opportunity to try the instrument themselves and will sight-read Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.3.
*No advance preparation is necessary.
Ensemble Skills Strings

Karin will discuss and demonstrate skills and techniques to promote better ensemble playing in a string section and chamber music.

Performance Anxiety + Paradoxical Effort

More than half of all musicians have suffered with significant anxiety both before and during performance. This type of anxiety tends to worsen in response to direct and urgent attempts to "relax". This class will offer a different perspective and solutions to help combat this anxiety.
