BSO Academy Week
The week-long BSO Academy brings together passionate, adult instrumental musicians from all over the United States and around the world for a unique and fulfilling musical experience with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Participants have the option of choosing from one of three tracks: Orchestral, Chamber, and Arts Administrator Tracks.
In the Orchestral track, led by the exceptional Maestra Marin Alsop, participants play side-by-side with the BSO in rehearsals and performances and experience master classes, lectures, and sectionals led by orchestra members. Additional opportunities for chamber music and/or chamber orchestra are available for an extra fee.
New in 2014, the BSO Academy is expanding its chamber music offerings with the flexibility to create a special chamber track that includes small chamber ensemble with side-by-side BSO player and coach, large chamber ensemble, and the ability to participate in classes and social activities with BSO musicians and Orchestral Academy participants as well as audit orchestral rehearsals and sectionals.

The Arts Administrator Track gives orchestra administrators a “behind-the-scenes” look into the Academy. It provides participants with insights into to the program’s history, funding and logistical challenges, and integration of both the amateur and professional mindsets. In addition to the informational seminars every day, administrator participants will have to opportunity to sit-in on Academy classes, lectures, and rehearsals. Instrumental administrator participants may take private lessons, play in the BSO Academy Side by Side Orchestra, play chamber music, and/or play in the Academy Chamber Orchestra (contingent on space availability).
