Designed for adult amateur musicians, the BSO Academy is an immersive week of playing and learning side-by-side with the members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop.

Academy Week Orchestra Administrator Track

Untitled Document

Since its inception four years ago, the BSO Academy Week has served as a truly unique community engagement tool, bringing together passionate, adult instrumental musicians for a once-in-a-lifetime, immersive experience with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop.   Participants play side-by-side with the BSO in rehearsals and performances and experience master classes, lectures, chamber music coachings, and sectionals led by orchestra members and experts in the field.   Receiving critical acclaim from participants, BSO musicians, and the media (including the New York Times), the Academy has enabled the BSO to redefine how a forward-thinking American Orchestra can attract, engage, and serve its community by embracing values of access, relevancy and excellence.

In 2013, the Academy Week will offer also orchestra administrators a “behind-the-scenes” look at this unique program with insights into the program’s history, funding and logistical strategies, and integration of both the amateur and professional musician mindsets.  In addition to attending informational seminars every day, administrator participants will have the opportunity to observe all Academy classes, lectures, and rehearsals.  Instrumental administrator participants may also elect to take private lessons or play in the BSO Academy Side by Side Orchestra (contingent on space availability).
