It is with great pleasure and excitement that I welcome you to the inaugural season of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras. This will be the first youth orchestra that the Baltimore Symphony has operated in its celebrated 96-year history. With this exciting news comes a great deal of opportunity and growth for our orchestra and community. The BSYO will become a cornerstone of our education programs and provide wonderful concerts both at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and at the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology.
This season will be a special journey for our newest members of the BSO family. As members of the BSYO, students will have the ability to work closely with BSO musicians and have the unique opportunity to perform in two world-class venues. The BSYO will also be in-residence at the George Washington Carver School for the Arts and Technology. This partnership will give us a variety of opportunities for creative collaboration and further our reach within the community.
The BSO strives to actively involve the community in all aspects of music and I truly feel that this new endeavor helps to further achieve that goal. Please join me in welcoming the BSYO and in wishing it a very successful inaugural season.
Sincerely,
Marin Alsop
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Music Director
