About the Associates
The Baltimore Symphony Associates (BSA) continues its long tradition of volunteers in service to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra reaching back to 1942 when it began as the Women's Committee. More than 200 current members use their time, energy and financial support to benefit the BSO's education programs. Volunteers are an important part of the success of many organizations and this one is no exception. We hope you will consider joining the men and women of the BSA so that you, too, can be a part of the BSO family. Many opportunities and activities are available with membership.
Do you enjoy meeting and working with a variety of interesting and talented individuals? Do you want to contribute to the success of one of the region's cultural treasures? Do you want to get behind-the-scenes of one of the country's leading orchestras? Do you have a passion for classical music?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then volunteering at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is right for you! Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The valuable time, skills and creativity of dedicated BSA volunteers help keep the Baltimore Symphony's wonderful tradition of artistic excellence alive.
There are a wide variety of volunteer jobs that need to be filled. Some require only a few hours of your time, while others involve a more serious time commitment. With the wide variety of volunteer opportunities available, there's bound to be one that fits your interests, skills and amount of availale time. Below is just a sample of some of the volunteering activities.
Contact Louise Reiner with the Baltimore Symphony Associates via email at email@example.com or by calling 410.783.8023 today to talk about any of these exciting volunteer opportunities. If you have another idea of how you could volunteer for the BSO, we would love to hear from you. Your time and talents do make a difference!
One of the most visible ways we serve the BSO is by managing and staffing the Symphony Store which is located adjacent to the Meyerhoff lobby. When you stop in and purchase something for yourself or a gift for a music lover, you benefit the BSO. The store is open one hour before subscription concerts and during intermission. To arrange a shopping appointment at another hour, call the store at 410-783-8160. Volunteer staffers are always needed.
Decorators' Show House
The largest event sponsored by the BSA is the annual Decorators' Show House. Each spring, a suitable property is chosen to be decorated by a select group of interior and exterior designers. The house is open for tours for one month. This event includes an on site boutique, cafe and other special activities. A large and dedicated group of men and women is needed to create this event. This fundraising event is created by BSA volunteers.
The BSA is also sponsoring Exclusive Post Performance Celebrations following the two performances of A Christmas Carol - In Concert on December 16 and 17. Once you have bought your tickets for the performance, for $35 per person, you will be able to join BSO musicians and performers for a celebration with hors d'oeuvres, dessert, wine and beer provided. Tickets are available though the box office and on-line. http://www.bsomusic.org/main.taf?p=1,16,6
Midweek Educational Youth Concert Ushers
Become an usher at our midweek educational concerts and see the smiling faces of our young visitors, some of whom have never heard a symphony orchestra before. These marvelous productions are for students from kindergarten through high school in the Baltimore metropolitan area public and private schools. “Home schoolers” also attend. Some of these concerts are ONLY presented during the midweek concert series.
The BSA sponsors Classic Conversations, free pre-concert lectures to ticket holders of selected Friday evening concerts. Lectures feature prominent speakers from the music world.
Wine adventures are “friendraising” activities for the BSA. The events are held in various locations and provide an opportunity to learn more about the activities of the Associates. Fine wines and sometimes other spirits allow members to sample currently available products.
