Peter Minkler
Viola Seul: Works for unaccompanied viola, is a unique recording of seven unaccompanied viola works, featuring Violist Peter Minkler, currently Acting Assistant Principal of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
This CD includes music by J.S. Bach, Henri Vieuxtemps, Max Reger, Paul Hindemith, Igor Stravinsky and Lillian Fuchs, as well as the world premiere recording of Three for One by Marcel Dick.
"This recording of unaccompanied viola works, unusual though it may be, unites those pieces for which I have a deep personal affinity while showcasing the extraordinary qualities of my oft-maligned instrument. Although rarely considered a solo instrument, the viola, with its distinctive timbre, rich sonorous tone and closeness in range to the human voice, is capable of expression far exceeding its reputation. After listening to Viola Seul, I hope you will agree." ~Peter Minkler
Recently released worldwide by Centaur Records, the CD is now available locally from the BSO gift shop and An Die Musik, as well as through www.centaurrecords.com.
