Christina Scroggins, Violin

In 1979 Christina Scroggins, at age nineteen, became the youngest musician ever to win a position in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Born in Florida and raised in New York and Virginia, Ms. Scroggins received fellowships from both the Aspen Music School and The Tanglewood Institute and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from UMBC in 1981 while studying with the late Robert Gerle. She plays a Sergio Peresson violin made in 1980.

Ms. Scroggins’ interests in the arts goes beyond music. In 1999, she took a leave of absence and completed a certificate in photography at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography located in Missoula, Montana. Since then, her photographs have been exhibited throughout the United States, France, and Israel.

In addition to being a Strathmore Artist, she is a member of Baltimore’s Creative Alliance, a member of the Rehoboth Art League, and an associate member of the Maryland Pastel Society. She is also registered with the Maryland State Arts Council’s Visual Artists’ Registry. An exclusive selection of her handmade greeting cards are available in the BSO gift shop.
