When not rehearsing or performing on stage with the BSO…I enjoy spending time with my daughter Amelia, my partner, Jennifer, and friends too. Honestly music pervades my entire life. It’s seems that if I’m not on stage or with friends and family I’m practicing for upcoming concerts by the BSO, chamber groups, or other solo and orchestral opportunities. Teaching is becoming an increasingly important and a significant time commitment. In the cracks I enjoy, exercising by running, road and mountain bike riding, yoga, Qigong, and if in Aspen hiking the highest mountains I can find!
What career would you have chosen if you had not decided to become a professional musician? I am fascinated by sound and might have ended up as a recording engineer and producer.
What kind of music helps you unwind? I love Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Michael and Randy Brecker, the crew that hangs out with Bela Fleck and Mark O’Connor and Jonatha Brooke for their virtuosity as players and composers, Sting for his fantastic music and intelligent lyrics, and other artists who are too numerous to mention.
What do you listen to in the car? Usually something energetic by the above and add, Lost Tribe, Carl Filipiak, Spyro Gyra, Yellowjackets, the Beatles…how many files does my 40 gig mp3 player hold?
My current ring tone is…”Smile Like You Mean It” by the Killers.
What was the last book you read? I’m reading Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk.
People seem to be surprised when I tell them I’m starting my 20th season with the BSO.
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done or biggest risk you have ever taken? I think for most of us it would have been getting into music and taking orchestral auditions in the first place.
What is your dream or if you have already achieved it, what was it? Wow, I'd really like a life where I had the time to do yoga, Qigong and meditate on a regular basis.
The non-musical accomplishment that I am most proud of is…my beautiful and talented daughter Amelia. She attends the Carver Center in the Theater Prime and I’m so proud of her!
What is your guilty pleasure? I try to be as Green as possible so I’d have to say it’s riding my motorcycle just for the fun of it.
My favorite vacation spots are…Aspen, Banff or the Caribbean…Hard to decide?
