Contrabassoonist David Coombs has been a member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since 1982. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic, and the Phoenix Symphony. In Baltimore, he has performed with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society. In addition, he performs regularly on the “Chamber Music by Candlelight” series at the Second Presbyterian Church.
He holds an M.A. in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music and a B.A. from the University of Rochester. His primary bassoon teachers were K. David Van Hoesen and Loren Glickman.
David is the webmaster for the Musicians' Corner of BSOmusic.org. He has been active for many years on various committees within the BSO, including the Players’ Committee, the Pension Committee and the Investment Committee.
When not on stage at the Meyerhoff, he can usually be found at his computer, or on a tennis court.
