If I had not decided to become a professional musician, I may have become…a fiction or non-fiction writer.

To unwind, I listen to…ancient choir/church music.

In the car, you will most likely catch me listening to…rock stations and occasionally classical music.

The last book I read was…a biography of Charles Lindbergh.

Most people would be surprised to learn that…I canoed down the length of the Mississippi River from its head waters to New Orleans with my father.

My dream is…to become a great bass player, and I’m still working on it.

The non-musical accomplishments that I am most proud of are…my camping, hiking and canoeing trips.

My guilty pleasure is…rootbeer floats.

My favorite vacation spot is the…Grand Tetons.

The last movie I saw was…Ratatouille.

To prepare for a performance, I…drill the hard passages until they are natural so I can focus on the orchestra around me.

I also play a little guitar.

My most embarrassing musical moment was…I had pulled an all nighter and was a little slap happy the next day.  I had a laughing attack on stage and had to put my bow down until I could stop.

An extremely positive musical experience that I have had was when…I got to play Mahler 2 with Bernstein conducting at the National Cathedral in 1983.  I will never forget it.

If I could spend a day with any composer, it would be…Brahms.  I’m reading a biography of him and I relate to many aspects of his up-bringing.
