Kristin Ostling joined the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra cello section in 1995.  Having began her cello studies at the age of nine in Louisville, Kentucky, she appeared as a soloist with the Louisville Orchestra and the Louisville Youth Orchestra.  Ms. Ostling earned her Bachelors degree from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music and a Masters degree from the Mannes College of Music.  She has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Concerto soloists of Philadelphia in addition to appearances as a soloist and chamber musician at numerous festivals including:  the La Tolla Chamber Music Society’s “Summerfest,” “Bargemusic,” the Pensacola Chamber Music Festival, and the Academia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy.

A frequent performer on the BSO’s “Chamber Music by Candlelight” series, Ms. Ostling has been featured on the BSO’s “Summer MusicFest,” in collaboration with guest artists Pinchas Zukerman, Ralph Kirschbaum and Ariel Shamai.  She has also appeared as a soloist with the BSO.  In a different venue, she can be heard on the rock album, “Southern Barber Supply” by the Richmond-based Cashmere Jungle Lords.  Ms. Ostling can also be heard performing with the rock cello band, Primitivity. In her spare time, Ms. Ostling enjoys hiking and tracking the pursuits of elite mountaineers from the comfort of sea level.
