Rebecca Nichols has been a member of the first violin section in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since 1991. Prior to her appointment with the Baltimore Symphony, she played for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in Rochester, NY., where she served as Assistant Concertmaster.

Ms. Nichols received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Charles Castleman and Donald Weilerstein. Before graduating from the Interlochen Arts Academy, she held the chair of Concertmaster and performed as soloist with the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra. Ms. Nichols spent two summers at the Heidelberg Castle Festival and was awarded a Summer Fellowship to the Aspen Music Festival.

While in Rochester, Ms. Nichols was a member of the violin faculty at the Eastman School of Music and at the Hochstein School in addition to performing as the first violinist in the Medici String Quartet. She is a founding member of the Atlantic String Quartet in Baltimore, and has performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony as well as the Traverse City Symphony in Michigan. Ms. Nichols performs regularly on the “Candlelight Chamber Music Series” at the Second Presbyterian Church and has played in numerous chamber ensembles in the Baltimore/Washington area.
