Robert Barney, Principal Bass

Robert Barney began his career as a bassist with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at age 13. He then studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy, winning the Young Artist's Award upon graduation. He continued his studies at the Peabody Conservatory and at age twenty-one, joined the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Bass in 1972. Later he was promoted to Principal Bass starting in 1981. He has performed at the Aspen, Interlochen, Meadowbrook, Sarasota, and Grand Tetons music festivals in addition to regular performances with the early music ensemble “Pro Musica Rara.”
