Apart from a two-year absence during the 1973 and 1974 seasons during which he served as Guest Concertmaster for the New Japan Philharmonic, Yasuoki Tanaka has been a member of the first violin section of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since 1970. During his tenure with the Baltimore Symphony he has performed solos in the Prokofiev Concerto and in J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos.
Mr. Tanaka attended the Toho School of Music in Tokyo and Indiana University, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. His primary teachers included Josef Gingold, Joseph Silverstein, and Broadus Erle.
Since 1980 Mr. Tanaka has been repairing and rehairing bows, and beginning in 1997, he has been completely fabricating his own line of violin bows.
