Washington, D.C.'s CityDance Ensemble Performs Jungle Books at the Meyerhoff, Saturday, April 25
Program features original choreography, score and costumes
Baltimore, Md. (April 7, 2009) - Washington, D.C.'s CityDance Ensemble will bring to life the classic characters Mowgli, Baloo, Shere Khan and more in Jungle Books on Saturday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Recently awarded the D.C. Mayor's Arts Award for Excellence in an Artistic Discipline, CityDance presents this colorful adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's timeless tales featuring dancers dressed as Jungle Book characters leaping, prancing and pouncing their way across the stage. Please note: the BSO will not perform on this program. Please see below for complete program information.
This hour-long adaptation features original choreography by CityDance's Artistic Director Paul Gordon Emerson, Rehearsal Director Christopher K. Morgan, former company member Kyra Jean Green, Washington Ballet dancer Jason Hartley, Culture Shock DC Artistic Director Joseph Nontanovan and BosmaDance Artistic Director Meisha Bosma. The score's composers-Matthew Jones, Clifton Brockington and Saleem Wayne Waters-will perform live on drums, wind synthesizer and keyboard. New sets and drops will transform the stage into an Indian jungle and original costumes and masks will mold the dancers into Kipling's characters.
The BSO Family Fun Zone will open at 10:00 a.m. in the Meyerhoff lobby. Children and their families can take advantage of numerous free, age-appropriate pre-concert activities, including the Maryland Zoo's ZOOmobile, an instrument petting zoo and face painting.
