BSO Announces Annual "Rusty Musicians with the BSO"
Concert in Baltimore, November 13

Annual event welcomes singers to participate for the first time

Baltimore, Md. (August 21, 2012) -The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra announces the much-anticipated annual Rusty Musicians with the BSO on Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. (Group 1) and 7:50 p.m. (Group 2) at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This event provides community instrumental musicians with the opportunity to play side-by-side with a world-class orchestra, in a professional hall with Music Director Marin Alsop.  This year, approximately 90 un-auditioned string, brass, wind and percussion instrumentalists will participate in rehearsals and a performance of selections from Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony and Verdi's Il Trovatore, Macbeth, Don Carlos and Messa da Requiem. The cost to participate is $50; attendance at this event is free and open to the public. Please see below for complete program details.

For the first time ever, Rusty Singers will share the stage to rehearse and play the iconic Verdi choral works.  With no audition required, the BSO will bring together sopranos, altos, tenors and basses from across the community.  This one-night only chorus will sing under the baton of Maestra Alsop and with the Baltimore Symphony, an experience often open only to professionals.  Performing among the Rusty Singers will be members of the Heritage Signature Chorale, providing an inspiring side-by-side choral experience. Acclaimed choral conductor Stanley Thurston will offer additional singers-only rehearsals on Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Rusty Musicians celebrates the Baltimore Symphony's vibrant relationship with the community and all musicians.  As one participant described the on-stage experience with the BSO, "it is like jumping inside of a painting or work of art you have admired for years."  Initiated in 2010, the unique Rusty Musicians program has since been copied by symphonies across the United States.  For more information and to view additional testimonials, please visit BSOmusic.org/rusty.
  
COMPLETE REGISTRATION DETAILS:
To register, visit BSOmusic.org/rusty and fill out the online form. Participants are selected on a first-come, first-served basis; early registration is encouraged to ensure a spot.
-Participants must be age 21 or older.
-Orchestral instrumentalists should be able to read music and play an instrument that is part of the standard orchestra instrumentation. Singers should be able to carry a consistent pitch and sing in harmony.
-Instrumentalists are invited to participate in Groups 1 and/or 2.
-Vocalists are invited to participate in Group 2 only.
-Online registration is open.
-Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to register early.
-Participants must submit a non-refundable registration fee at the time of registration: $50 for one group experience, $100 for 2 group experiences.
-Acceptance will be confirmed via email.
-Digital parts will be provided in early October.
