OrchKids Debut with BSO and Marin Alsop

The children of the BSO's OrchKids program have been very busy this week preparing for their performance at the
Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in this week’s The Pied Piper concert on Thursday, March 31 and Sunday, April 3.

Over 100 OrchKids will take the stage alongside BSO musicians and Marin Alsop to show off their skills and musical
talents as they perform the world premiere of David Rimelis’s Baltimore Symphony Orchestra commissioned work
OrchKids Nation. Rimelis’ wrote OrchKids Nation after he was inspired by interviews with the children and the piece’s
percussive elements were created from the dance rhythms of the OrchKids Bucket Band. OrchKids students have
been practicing this piece for months with instructors at the Lockerman Bundy Elementary School in preparation for
this concert. Also on the program is Prokofiev’s Cinderella Suite.

In recognition of the OrchKids’ participation, 20% of the proceeds from single tickets sold (tickets not
sold on subscription) for this performance will be donated to the BSO’s OrchKids program. The donations
will help the OrchKids program, which is currently in its third year and serves nearly 300 pre-K through 3rd grade
students with music training, tutoring, life enrichment activities and nutritious meals four days per week. In
collaboration with several community partners, OrchKids provides music education, instruments, meals and
mentorship at no cost to Baltimore youth.
