Washington Performing Arts logoSince the early 1990s, Washington Performing Arts' Men and Women of the Gospel Choir has performed annually at prestigious venues within the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area such as The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Harman Center for the Arts and The Music Center at Strathmore, offering audiences the tradition and inspirational root of gospel music featuring works by local and national music composers in concert while sharing the stage with an array of artists such as Sweet Honey in the Rock, Beverly Crawford, Ramsey Lewis Trio, Dottie Peoples, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Myrna Summers, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams and many other gospel greats.

The 130+ voice choir has worked with an array of local and national music and choral directors. In addition to their annual productions each year, the Choir has also been featured in various community events including guest appearances at the Americans for the Arts’ Nancy Hanks Lecture; the Helen Hayes Awards Gala; the grand opening Gala at the Harman Center for the Arts with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; Carnegie Hall and Warner Theater with Sweet Honey in the Rock; The Music Center at Strathmore with The Ramsey Lewis Trio; the D.C. Mayor’s Arts Awards; and the Annual Gospel Family Brunch at the University of Maryland, College Park.
