2022 Academy Chamber Music Program

Saturday, June 25 – Saturday, July 2, 2022
(The Chamber Music Concert is Saturday, July 2 at 7pm)

Fee: $650

The Academy Chamber Music Program appeals to a wide range of adult musicians with various chamber music backgrounds, seeking a more intensive experience playing alongside a BSO musician who also coaches the ensemble. For all participants, the Academy Chamber Music Program provides adult musicians with opportunities to develop and advance their chamber music skills. .

The Chamber Music Program offers the following:

  • A small ensemble quartet-size or larger with a BSO musician playing and coaching
  • Three 1.5-hour rehearsals
  • A dress rehearsal in the concert space
  • A public performance on the stage of the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall

PROGRAM ADD-ONS AVAILABLE FOR ORCHESTRAL PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS:

Registration for private lessons will be added later, as we approach the Academy dates.

Private Lessons (1 hour) *: Participants take private lessons with BSO faculty members of their choosing to work on solo, chamber, orchestral repertoire, tone, technique or other musical agendas, for an additional fee of $130/hr. Please see the BSO faculty listing for teacher selection. Faculty list coming soon.

*Private lessons are scheduled individually at times that are mutually convenient for the Academy participant & BSO faculty member that do not conflict with provided meals or other Academy activities, and when space is available. Participants may request a preferred time while registering for private lessons after acceptance.

Parking: Purchasing a parking pass is a convenient option for commuters or participants who would like to avoid street parking or high daily parking rates at hotels. The BSO Garage (1311 Cathedral Street) is half a block away from JMSH and passes cost $60 for the duration of the Academy Week.

All Academy activities will take place at JMSH and in the surrounding area for the entirety of the Academy Week (Saturday, June 25 – Saturday, July 2). All Orchestral Program rehearsals with the BSO are held at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

A limited amount of funding is available for participants that belong to historically underrepresented communities in classical music and/or are committed to the work of increasing diversity and inclusion in the arts and those who demonstrate financial need due to extreme circumstances or other financial hardship. Financial assistance may also be available to fill program instrumental needs.

REFUND POLICY

BSO Academy Week tuition and fees are non-refundable except in the case of a medical emergency or other extreme circumstance as determined by the BSO Director of Education & Community Engagement. Please note that the $50 application fee is non-refundable. No reduction in fees can be made for late arrival or early departure. View the Meyerhoff Covid Requirements & BSO Code of Conduct

 


 

COVID-19:

The BSO closely monitors federal, state, and local guidelines and will update these policies as needed. In addition to pledging regular communication, we also ask patrons to please check back prior to attending to confirm current protocols.

While the BSO is following recommended practices, these protocols do not offer absolute protection against contracting COVID-19. Those purchasing tickets or attending BSO events voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19. In accordance with the BSO’s code of conduct, the BSO reserves the right to require attendees who do not follow our guidelines, or who are disrespectful to staff, artists, volunteers, or other patrons, to leave an event immediately without a refund.

COVID-19 remains a concern for the 2022 Academy, and we will be subject to all state and local requirements. Health and Welfare for everyone is our top priority.

In the event a participant tests positive for COVID-19, and is required to quarantine, all fees and tuition will be reapportioned towards attendance for next year’s Academy program.
