Violin2Viola Workshop at the Baltimore Symphony Academy

Who:
This is a workshop designed for violinists and educators who are interested in learning more about viola; viola players who switched from violin long ago, but perhaps never had a strong foundation in viola; amateurs to professionals. The BSO Academy V2V weekend workshop is a learning opportunity for adult musicians ages 18 and above. In addition, there will also be additional violin sessions offered by BSO Concertmaster, Jonathan Carney and First Violinist, Holly Jenkins free of charge to V2V workshop participants or as a stand-alone experience for violinists who are not interested in studying viola. For teachers, many school employers will accept the workshop as professional development. Please check with your school administration.

What:
Topics will include sessions such as Nuts and Bolts: Basic information about viola and how it differs from violin in terms of the instrument, accessories, technique, etc.; Technique Lab: Scales, vibrato, and basic tone production on the viola; Ensemble Playing: Overview of the Bach Minuets and other viola music; Viola Repertoire; Ask a Violist;

Concurrently, optional violin-related sessions including two violin workshops with BSO Concertmaster Jonathan Carney and First Violinist Holly Jenkins will be included in this BSO Academy Workshop. Violinists who are not interested in the viola may register separately for these two sessions as well
