Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: Important Changes to our Fall Concert Schedule
The BSO is excited to share the experience of our extraordinary Orchestra and our Season of Discovery with patrons in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and in our second home at The Music Center at Strathmore, where we are a Founding and Resident Partner.
Our partners at Strathmore have been engaged in labor negotiations with IAFM Local 868, the union that represents Strathmore’s Ticket Office employees. The parties, however, have not reached agreement. Against the backdrop of these negotiations, the BSO has also been unable to reach consensus with Strathmore on our annual licensing agreement – an agreement that sets the financial and legal terms of our 2021-22 season concerts at The Music Center.
We understand that labor negotiations can be difficult for everyone involved. We have worked diligently to manage relationships with our own collectively bargained family including our musicians (represented by the Musicians’ Association of Metropolitan Baltimore, Local 40-543 AFM) and stagehands (members of IATSE Local 19), and do not wish to put these employees in a position of deciding whether to cross a picket line. We also cannot sign on to new language in our license agreement that contradicts these collectively bargained agreements or places the full financial burden of any concert cancellations directly resulting from potential strike action by Strathmore’s bargained units squarely on the BSO’s shoulders.
To give Strathmore time and space to resolve their ongoing labor issues, and to assure a successful start to our subscription season, the BSO will be relocating our first two weeks of concerts from The Music Center at Strathmore to the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
All new Baltimore dates are now available for public sale, and all previously scheduled Meyerhoff performances for these weeks will proceed as advertised. For more information including a full listing of impacted concerts, read more here.
We look forward to our return to The Music Center, and to sharing our exciting Season of Discovery and many more seasons of inspirational music with our audience members in Montgomery County and across the state of Maryland.
