Great news from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

Dear Friends of the BSO:

We are delighted to announce some great news! As we recently shared with you, the Vision Committee, the State Workgroup and the strategic engagement of national thought leaders including TDC and most recently Michael Kaiser, are helping to shape the comprehensive, collaborative and forward-looking work underway.

Today, we are pleased to share that in the last month the BSO has secured $6 million in extraordinary operating gifts as well as a $1.25 million endowment gift as a bridge to a bright future. We are thrilled by this generous outpouring of support, and it is certainly an inspirational example of how members of our community are responding to our multi-year planning efforts.

As we have outlined in today's announcement, these gifts will enable the BSO to turn the corner towards sustainability. Unrestricted operating gifts will provide immediate cash flow and balance sheet relief as well as position us to embark on a robust, well-researched, multi-year plan that will reinvigorate our programs and establish new levels of engagement with our audiences, the community at large and the state of Maryland.

While these extraordinary investments are helping us to move forward with confidence, we also know that we must build on this momentum in the weeks, months and years ahead. Audience growth, community engagement and outreach, and further multi-year philanthropic commitments will be critical to the Orchestra’s ability to fully implement new initiatives and make the exciting future a reality.

We look forward to sharing more information on our plans and progress in February. In the interim, thank you for your support of your Baltimore Symphony Orchestra!

Sincerely,

Peter T. Kjome
President and CEO
