October 27, 2020

We are grateful to you for your patronage of the BSO, and we want you to be among the first to know about some updates for the 2020-21 season.

Earlier this month, we launched BSO Sessions, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s digital concert series. BSO Sessions shares powerful music and real stories with audiences, reimagining how we fulfill our community’s need for inspirational music and artistic leadership.

We are excited to announce that we are going “all in” with BSO Sessions! In addition to the first three episodes currently available, 27 new installments of the series will be released through June 2021. Highlights of episodes just announced through December include the series debuts of Music Director
Marin Alsop and Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly; the responsible return of our winds and brass to the stage; and, a holiday Pops program featuring timeless classics and BSO Artistic Partner Wordsmith with a new rendition of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” part of a broad array of inspiring programs.

In extending BSO Sessions, we have also come to the important and necessary decision to extend subscription concert cancellations at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and The Music Center at Strathmore through June 19, 2021. We remain committed to bringing our audiences together but our priority must remain the health and safety of our audiences, artists, and orchestra amid the current realities of COVID-19. Just as some of the most significant progress we have made as an organization has resulted from a shared acknowledgement of our realities, the BSO views these subscription cancellations as providing the opportunity to pursue new alternatives with focused attention, innovation, and care.

In addition to BSO Sessions, these alternatives include the consideration of socially-distanced indoor and outdoor rehearsals and performances. We are also actively planning a reimagined, multi-week celebration of Music Director Marin Alsop in June 2021 as she concludes her historic 14-year tenure. The culminating event, a Gala Celebration with vocalist Renee Fleming, remains set for June 20, 2021, with more details to be announced.

Again, thank you for your support. It is our honor and our privilege to share the joy and power of music with you and with our community – virtually in the interim, and together again one day soon.

Sincerely,

Peter T. Kjome
President and CEO
