Andrew Eng

Canadian-born violist Andrew Eng began his musical journey at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. A versatile performer, he enjoys exploring a wide range of musical styles, including Baroque, Classical, Jazz, and Contemporary repertoire. His playing has been praised as “intense and powerfully emotional” (Classical New Jersey), and The New Jersey Star-Ledger noted his “instinct for the emotional pulse of a line.”
Before joining the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Eng held a one-year position with the National Symphony Orchestra and performed extensively with both the Washington National Opera and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. He was previously a member of the Albany and Annapolis Symphony Orchestras.
A founding member of the two-time Grammy-nominated chamber orchestra A Far Cry, Andrew has appeared on major concert series such as the Boston Celebrity Series and Marlborough’s Music for a Sunday Afternoon. He has performed as a guest artist with the National Chamber Players, Classical Movements, Lyrica Boston Chamber Music, and the Longy School of Music’s Modern American Music concert series.
Andrew’s festival appearances include Spoleto USA, Kneisel Hall, Yellow Barn, Ravinia, Ottawa Chamberfest, and Chautauqua. He is also a frequent guest on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.
Dedicated to education, Andrew previously taught at Wellesley College, the Groton Music Center, and the Point Counterpoint Summer Music Festival. He has coached chamber music for the National Symphony Orchestra Fellowship Program and currently mentors young musicians as a coach with the American Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Andrew holds a Performer’s ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music, an Undergraduate Diploma in Performance, and a Master of Music in Modern American Music from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He studied with distinguished mentors including Zvi Zeitlin, Joseph Silverstein, Laura Bossert, George Garzone, and Roger Tapping.
