Partnership seeking to create accessible and inclusive experiences for all kicks off this December

(November 23, 2022) – Today, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Revival, the award-winning JdV by Hyatt Hotel, announced a collaborative partnership on the BSO Fusion Series. The partnership sees the Mt. Vernon neighbors coming together to infuse the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall with curated pre- and post-show experiences for concertgoers hallmarked by the unique and inclusive spirit that has become synonymous with Revival. The collaboration also establishes Revival’s support of programs like OrchKids and other BSO-led community-based initiatives through its ongoing impact efforts.

The BSO Fusion Series blends elements of classical and contemporary music from genres spanning hip-hop, pop and rock. The curated program ushers new audiences into the symphony hall by highlighting well-known, chart-topping music alongside traditional composers, played by a world-class orchestra.

Fueled by Revival, guests can now enjoy the popular food and beverage experience powered by the hotel’s dining concepts, Topside and B-Side – to accompany their night at the orchestra. Fans of Revival’s “Lit Lobby” will enjoy the iconic party, including handcrafted cocktails and a DJ set curated by DJ Impulse, prior to every BSO Fusion Series concert in the lobby of the historic Meyerhoff. As another perk of the partnership, guests attending any BSO concert are able to receive a discounted meal at Topside with their ticket stub while also enjoying a signature cocktail from the Revival bar team and inspired by incoming BSO Music Director Designate Jonathon Heyward. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the cocktail will be donated to the BSO to support its community-based initiatives.

“Revival is proud to partner with the BSO to bring Baltimore together with music as a catalyst,” said Donte Johnson, general manager for Revival. “We’re excited to take elements of the Revival experience to the Meyerhoff and, utilizing our collective expertise, create experiences that are welcoming and fun, and, more importantly, representative of the whole community.”

“I can’t overstate what an incredible environment I have felt at Revival; their creativity and style, world-class execution, and commitment to community are the very same pillars we seek to embody with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Fusion series,” said BSO Fusion Series conductor, Steve Hackman. “I am so looking forward to a partnership with them and the opportunity to cultivate a space for everyone who wants to be a part of the exciting and emerging cultural movements in this city.”

Conducted by visionary conductor, composer, producer, and songwriter Steve Hackman, The partnership kicks off with two December concerts including:

Friday, December 2 at 8pm – Tchaikovsky X Drake: a symphonic synthesis that blends the music of two composer-romanticists separated by almost a century. Fifteen Drake songs are woven into Tchaikovsky’s epic Fifth Symphony in every way imaginable. Joining the full symphony orchestra are three featured singers and a rapper.

New Year’s Eve at 8:30pm From Beethoven to Beyoncé: a fantastical trip through an imaginary music festival that combines the greatest composers of all-time with the best popular artists of today. Lady Gaga sings with Brahms; Bruno Mars improvises with Bach; Wagner conducts while Adele sings; Muse, Shostakovich and Chance the Rapper talk politics; John Mayer fanboys over Mahler; and Beethoven and Beyoncé bring it home with help from Mumford and Sons. Three vocal soloists, one also a multi-instrumentalist, join the full orchestra.

Please note the artists listed above do not appear in either performance.

This new partnership with Revival is another effort in the BSO’s mission to make the Meyerhoff a “Hall for All” by diversifying its programming while celebrating the versatility of its musicians and the vibrant cultural arts scene in Baltimore.

Revival embodies a unique style of hospitality that supports the people and businesses in the Baltimore community – Impact Hospitality. Through creative and conscious programming and local partnerships such as the one announced today with the BSO, Revival fulfills its mission to “make lives better.” Social impact efforts launched by Revival in recent years have including creative and conscious programming and local partnerships such as educational workshops, thought-provoking conversations, art pop-ups, BIPOC vendor engagements and its Zero Proof, Zero Judgement spirit-free cocktail program.
