Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Presents Maxwell: A Night at the Symphony

February 21, 2020 (Baltimore, MD)
– The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces performances with soul star Maxwell on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4, 2020 in Maxwell: A Night at the Symphony. The performances take place at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, MD.

Led by Associate Conductor Nicholas Hersh, Maxwell and the Orchestra perform Maxwell’s most popular songs re-imagined for orchestra with veterans of his longtime band. The performance will include hits from his album BLACKsummers’night, which won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

Known for redefining soul music, Maxwell’s music has been described by Pitchfork as “exquisite, subdued soul… with sparkling intimacy and free-flowing conviviality.” Maxwell’s ambitious ‘BLACKSUMMERS’NIGHT’ trilogy began with BLACK in 2009 and included “Pretty Wings,” for which Maxwell won the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. The second installment, SUMMERS was named Pitchfork’s Best New Music and earned him his third Grammy in Best R&B Song for “Lake by the Ocean.” “Shame” marked the long-awaited third installment of the trilogy in 2018.

Please be advised that Maxwell: A Night at the Symphony will be a phone-free experience. Please arrive on time for the event. Per the performers’ request, no cell phones, smart watches, cameras or recording devices will be permitted at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Upon arrival, all phones and smart watches will be secured in Yondr pouches that will be unlocked at the end of the show. Guests maintain possession of their phones throughout the night, and if needed, may access their phones at designated Yondr unlocking stations in the lobby. Anyone caught with a cell phone in the venue will be immediately asked to leave. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a phone-free viewing experience.
